   Carimbó is directly related to the life history of its musicians, the caboclos of the Amazon who are generally fishermen and farmers.  The project Toque de Mestre attempts to show a little of the mixture of rhythms that make up their daily life.  Orality is very present in the creations of this genre, since the majority of these master musicians do not know how to read or write.  The lyrics and melodies are memorized, causing many of the musicians to change excerpts of the songs and substitute them over the course of their artistic trajectory.   It is difficult to understand the origins, but easy to be taken over by the rhythm of the Amazonian drums which are played lying flat on the ground.  The carimbó groups can be found in the most varied regions of Pará, coming form the Island of Marajó, the northeast of the state, the Lower Amazon, and above all the coastal region.  In general, the groups are comprised of family or community members.

            The rhythms are like images projecting a music onto us which blends with the forest and the various sounds that echo from it.

            The songs and images that comprise the CD and DVD were recorded in the coastal region and carry the melody and day-to-day existence of 18 of these groups.

O carimbo relaciona-se diretamente com a história de vida dos seus tocadores, os caboclos da Amazônia, geralmente pescadores e agricultores. O Projeto Toque de Mestre tenta contar um pouco da mistura destes ritmos que povoam o cotidiano desta gente. A oralidade é muito presente nas criações deste gênero, pois a maioria destes  Mestres não sabem ler ou escrever. As letras e melodias estão gravadas na memória, motivo que levam muitos a trocarem trechos das músicas, substituí-los ao longo de sua trajetória de artista. É difícil entender as origens, mas é muito fácil ser contagiado pelo ritmo dos tambores deitados no chão da Amazônia. Os grupos de carimbo podem ser encontrados nas mais diversas regiões do Pará, oriundos da ilha de Marajó, Nordeste Paraense, Baixo Amazonas e principalmente da região do Salgado. No geral são grupos familiares ou membros de comunidades.

Os toques são como imagens nos projetando uma música que, ao mesmo tempo em que camufla-se com a floresta, também confunde-se com os sons diversos que dela ecoam.

As músicas e as imagens que compõe o CD e o DVD foram captadas na região do salgado e traz a melodia e o cotidiano de 18 destes grupos.
